Teenager charged after woman shot in eye with pellet gun

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) – Authorities in Durham say a teenager faces malicious maiming and other charges after police say he shot a woman in the eye with a pellet gun.

A statement from police said the incident occurred at a bus stop on Tuesday. The victim, identified as a 43-year-old woman, found out three teenagers had left a business without paying for the items they took.

According to police, the woman approached the three teenagers at a nearby bus stop and, during that encounter, one of the teens pulled out a pellet gun and shot the woman in the eye. Investigators say the woman has undergone emergency surgery and may lose the eye.

The 16-year-old is being held in the Durham County Jail under a $500,000 bond. The other two teens also face charges.
