VA water: Who decides when it’s safe?
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The fight is on over who has the authority to decide when the water goes back on at the Veterans Affairs clinic in Wilmington.
On July 6th Fortune Law Offices, the attorney representing the VA building owner, issued a cease and desist to the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority. The lawyer said CFPUA did not have a right to issue a do not use advisory to the VA clinic, despite concerns over the contaminants in the water there. They requested that CFPUA remove themselves from the matter and allow the federal EPA to handle the conditions of the water.
On Friday, CFPUA Executive Director, James Fletchner, responded saying that the authority was asked to help in the matter in the first place back in March. He also mentioned the EPA, saying the metals in the water were higher than EPA action levels.
Today we reached out to Fortune Law Offices but they have not yet gotten back to us regarding CFPUA’s response.
Concerned Veterans for America responded to the continuing VA water problems saying in part, “With some appointments cancelled indefinitely, patients in the Wilmington area would benefit greatly from the Choice Card program enacted by Congress to allow veterans to see a doctor at a non-VA facility.”
