The gift that keeps on giving: Pender County students collect donations and learn a lesson in kindness

BURGAW, N.C. (WWAY) — Students in Pender County are learning the true meaning of giving this holiday season.

Several Burgaw Middle School students are taking part in a local holiday gift drive.

The goal is to collect one-thousand donated gifts.

Those gifts would then be given to students from families who may be struggling to make ends meet.

The students will be able to choose three-to-five of the gifts to wrap and give to their loved ones.

Jeff Noonan, a seventh grade math teacher, believes that the act of giving is a lesson that can go a long way in a student’s life.

“When these students give, they will never forget and that translates directly into the words ‘being kind,” he explained. “When we’re kind, what we’re really doing is giving a gift and choosing to be kind.”

For those who would like to donate, gift drop-off locations are located at the New Center Drive Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Wilmington and Utopia Day Spa in Burgaw.

The deadline is Friday, December 15th.
