Third highest number of nests on record reported in 2023 Oak Island sea turtle season
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — It was a great year for sea turtles in Oak Island.
The Oak Island Sea Turtle Protection Program recorded the third-highest number of nests on record, with 133 nests in all.
This marks the second year in a row with record numbers.
10,887 hatched eggs were recorded, with 9,921 emerged hatchlings.
