Flooding leads to evacuations in Brunswick County


CAROLINA SHORES, NC (WWAY) — Heavy rain is causing severe flooding in southwestern Brunswick County.

Brunswick County Fire Marshall Scott Garner says neighborhoods off US 17 in the Calabash and Carolina Shores area are flooding. There are reports of water rising in some of those homes.

Garner also says several cars were left stranded after drivers had to crawl out of them. So far, no injuries have been reported.

The county has opened a shelter at West Brunswick High School in Shallotte.

Garner says if people need to evacuate and cannot do that safely, to call 911.
