Thousands predicted to hit the roads this Easter weekend

LELAND, NC (WWAY)– Easter is a time for family and friends to gather.

That makes Good Friday one of the big travel days for this Easter weekend.

It’s also the start of a busy travel season.

According to AAA the most popular times to travel are from March through July.

This weekend’s unofficial start to spring has people filling their tanks and hitting the roads, aided by clear weather in the Cape Fear, with temperatures potentially touching the 80s.

Easter is also the start of spring break for many schools, and it’s a natural first vacation of the year for families.

With more traffic possible this weekend and this season, Tiffany Wright with AAA of the Carolinas says it’s important to take extra safety precautions to avoid accidents.

“Easter travel weekend is going to be pretty big,” said Wright. “We expect that we’re going to see a ton of road trippers. Road trips are going to reign supreme, and there’s going to be more traffic out there. I cant stress that enough. Don’t be in a hurry to reach your destination. There are going to be a lot more travelers on the road. We say it every year to ‘pack your patience’.”

If you are traveling this weekend, AAA has an app that will tell you where the cheapest gas is located along your route to help save money during a time of rising gas prices.
