BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Three Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Deputies recently received a citizen commendation for helping catch a loose dog near a highway.

Deputy Young, Deputy Evans and Deputy Smith received the recognition for their efforts.

A woman recently adopted a toy poodle from a small dog rescue near Charlotte when the dog got loose from her harness while stopped.

The woman says she panicked and called 911 to see if animal protective services could catch the dog as she approached Highway 211.

One deputy used his binoculars to track her, and he approached her from the park side of the trail she was on in his cruiser while Sgt. Young drove out to 211, where he found her on the road. He was able to coax her into his truck.

“I don’t have enough words to express how appreciative and grateful I am for their help,” the woman said. “I don’t think I would have been able to catch her without them. They were calm, came up with a game plan and executed it perfectly.”
