Three-year old dies from self-inflicted gunshot in North Carolina
LENOIR COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A tragic incident in Lenoir County has left a three-year old child dead.
It all happened on Sunday around 9:30 a.m. when police say a three-year old accidentally shot himself with a handgun inside a home in the 5500 block of Murphy Road in Pink Hill.
The child was taken to UNC Lenoir Health Care for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries around 11:00 a.m. The child has been identified as Clarence Roland Byrd IV.
Lenoir County officials say that evidence in this case will be sent to the SBI lab to be analyzed. Once the results are determined, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office will consult with the District Attorney’s office in reference to potential criminal charges in the incident.
