BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — It wasn’t your average police call.

On Wednesday, Sunset Beach police responded to a home on the 600 block of Magnolia, where a baby opossum had been found alone under a house. Sadly, the animal’s mother had already died nearby and had been removed by the property owners.

That’s when the team effort began.

An Animal Control Officer was called in to help determine the best way forward. Not long after, Officer Bell-Osinkosky arrived to transport the orphaned opossum to Boiling Spring Lakes, where licensed wildlife rehabber Anna Bolduc welcomed the little critter into her care.

The sheriff’s office shared a photo of Officer Bell-Osinkosky and their pint-sized passenger, reminding residents that even the smallest members of the community deserve a helping hand, or paw.
