Tips on how to combat spring allergies
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As we have flipped the calendars to March, and spring is around the corner, some people may be experiencing spring allergies.
People battling spring allergies may have a runny nose, sniffling, sneezing, watery eyes or itchy eyes.
Sometimes, it is hard to figure out if you have the common cold or flu or if it is allergies.
Typically, with a cold or the flu you may additionally feel fatigue, have a cough or a fever.
Doctor Austin Sherman with Novant Health says allergies are considered a chronic condition. There are different severities and people can develop them later on in life or very early on. He has tips on what you can do what home to get relief.
“Trailing over the counter medicines. Zyrtec, Claritin, those are some common antihistamines you can try. Flonase as well is an intra-nasal steroid you can take from time to time. Those are kind of like your first two go to items, try those out,” Dr. Sherman shared.
Dr. Sherman says there is never a bad time to reach out to your provider, but if over-the-counter medications aren’t helping, you may need to call a doctor.
Dr. Sherman himself encourages his patients to loop him in on how they are handling their seasonal allergies.
