Titans pull off team victory in win over Pender

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — The first full week of conference games saw mostly blowouts, but there were a few close games. The cream of the crop rose to the top, including one of our teams who saw their contest get decided by one score.

Ain’t no mountain high, ain’t no valley low, ain’t no Pender Patriots who can keep us from remembering the Trask Titans as our Week Six Team of the Week.

“It’s a great win,” Trask Senior Lineman M.P. Dzurovcin said. “It’s really just a big momentum swing for us, especially being 4-1 going into conference and now being 1-0 in conference. It’s a really great feeling and I think we’re going to do really good.”

You know what was really good Friday night, the run game. Dzurovcin and this line cleared lanes for BJ Jordan to run through in the 14-6 win. But all three phases of the game contributed to get the team win Coach Jonathan Taylor loves to see.

“We talk about executing in all three phases on Friday night,” Taylor said. “The kids are starting to gain an understanding that when we do that. each of them are a third of the game so it’s so very important that we educate them at a high level for both of them.”

The special teams showed trickery, and the defense pulled off the classic bend but don’t break mindset, holding Pender running back LaTrell Brown and the Patriot offense to six points.

“Everybody here knew we were capable of it,” Trask Junior Linebacker Foster Williamson said. “There were some doubts to begin with all week and over our by week. I’ve been playing varsity for two years and I ‘ve known the whole time our defense is the best.”

Congratulations once again to Trask on being named our Team of the Week. Tune in Friday for another 5th Quarter where we’ll see the teams duke it out for the next honor.
