HAMPSTEAD, N.C. (WWAY) – With half the teams in the Mideastern Conference on spring break, Topsail girls lacrosse has an opportunity to increase their lead at the top of the standings.

Currently at 11-0, that’s just over halfway to the 20-0 start they had last season. The Pirates have not lost a conference game in two years, but can’t slow down as Hoggard is just a game behind.

Topsail is looking for their second straight conference title, and Head Coach Courtney Burghardt says they have been building up to this level of success for quite some time.

“I just think it’s the standard that we’ve set,” Burghardt said. “Buying into the way we want our program run and everybody living to that expectation every single day. Whether it’s practice or a game. Keep doing what we’re doing if we can stay healthy and keep playing together. Keep it positive. I love those fun, close games. It makes it fun, but I think just keep doing what we’re doing.”
