Town of Calabash makes headway on new waterfront park
BRUNSWICK, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Calabash has a new waterfront park in the works.
This new waterfront park, between Beach Drive Southwest and Town View Place Southwest, has been in the works for a few years.
It was stalled due to a complication with a stormwater permit.
Even with that setback, the town hopes construction on the park will begin soon.
The first portion of the park includes a new bridge over the Calabash River with pedestrian walkways, and it was recently completed.
Calabash Town Administrator Michael Price hopes that final permitting will be complete in the next few months so they can finish the project.
“It’s going to allow folks the ability to have access to a park here close by without having to come all the way through town and it’s going to be a magnet,” said Price.
The plans include a boardwalk with gazebo, an ADA accessible kayak launch, a small playground, public restroom, and open space.
