Town of Leland adopted comprehensive safety action plan to make roads safer
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — In Brunswick County, the Town of Leland has adopted a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) comprehensive safety action plan.
The plan envisions a future where people can walk, bike, roll, and drive without the risk of dying or getting seriously injured.
Key priorities include creating safer intersections and enhancing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
Some of the “tier one high priority recommended projects” include, potentially lowering the speed limit on Village Road. Getting rid of right turns on red on highway 17 and putting wider edge lines and centerline rumble strips on Lanvale and Mount Misery Roads.
The plan was developed with funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s SS4A Grant Program and emphasizes ‘low-cost and high-impact solutions’.
In a press release, Mayor Brenda Bozeman said, “This plan provides the Town with meaningful projects and recommendations.” Mayor Bozeman adds, “It will serve as an important tool as we take significant steps to enhance roadway safety and create a more connected community.”
