LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Founders Park is set to reopen just in time for the Grand Illumination of Leland in Lights on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.

The park is located at 113 Town Hall Drive and will welcome visitors back for the first time since undergoing major upgrades. Most areas will reopen, but the amphitheater remains under construction and is expected to be finished in late spring 2026.

Visitors attending the Grand Illumination will be among the first to see the improvements. Families can visit Santa under the new picnic shelter, walk through light displays along the multi-use path, and check out the updated playground. Town officials say they plan to illuminate the park on the largest scale yet for this year’s Leland in Lights, which runs through Jan. 4.

The town said the project marks their largest park investment to date. Additions include a splash pad, veterans memorial, natural play area, fitness stations, new walking trails, expanded open space, and upgraded restroom and picnic facilities.

While the park will be partially open for the event, construction work is still underway in certain areas. Crews continue tree removal, cleanup, and other preparations, and the town reminds residents not to enter the park before it officially opens to the public.

A full grand opening celebration will be held once all construction is complete.
