Town of Surf City speaks on Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — The long time plan for multi-use path could soon be finding its footing in Pender County.
The Town of Surf City recently released a feasibility study on a multi-use path designed to promote increased pedestrian and bicycle accessibility to attractions, beaches and parks; while reducing traffic on area roads.
Surf City Town Manager Kyle Breuer said after the release of the study, the process will move forward.
“What the town has decided to do is take that visibility study to the next step and so, what we are doing is developing our first segment. which we anticipate going from generally around the Magnolia Reserve neighborhood over to close where the Walmart starts.”
Breuer said some comments from the survey show that many people want to see wider bike paths, better connected sidewalks, and more room for bikers and runners. Breuer is hopeful to deliver on the public’s requests.
“We know that the community has been requesting multi-use path for quite some time. So, we’re excited to get to work and deliver the first portion of this project soon.”
While their is no timeline of the project at this time, the town hopes to get a surveying done in the future, then asses cost and design.
