Trask falls to South Brunswick after 2nd half comeback

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY SPORTS) – Last year these two teams scored a total of 33 points combined. Trask gave up 35 in this second half falling to South Brunswick 47-30.

The Titans started strong reaching a 10 point cushion by the end of the 1st quarter with a 50 yard dash by Reggie Carr grabbing momentum into the 2nd quarter with a 16-6 lead.

South Brunswick looking for a spark before half took to the air. QB Mason Phillips already had a rushing TD from the first drive but found Miguel Miller for a pair of completions that lead to a rushing TD by Alex Brown. Brown, Phillips and Quayson Lee would end with big nights on both sides of the ball.

The 2nd half would start with Trask seizing more momentum with an onside kick recovery. This game involved a unique special teams play where most kickoffs were squib or onside kicks.

The momentum was short lived after a fumble gave the ball right back to South Brunswick. That’s when Mason Phillips made Trask pay. He sent a 34 yard “deep breather” to Keyshawn Smith to close the gap 24-20.

Trask’s Jake Johnson also left it all on the field. He responded with a 50 yard touchdown run to try and seal the comfort win for Trask. That would be the last time they saw the endzone.

Trask lost several players to dehydration and injuries. At least four players hit the ground during the 2nd half. South Brunswick got the better end of three turnovers even a fumble return by Mason Phillips that sealed the game.

Dayshon Lee would have a pair of touchdowns including a 50 yard burst that helped stretch the 4th quarter comeback.

Trask falls to 0-3 and South Brunswick goes to 2-1.
