Tropical Storm Colin has minimal impact on Cape Fear

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — We have been tracking Tropical Storm Colin for several days and the storm made only minimal impact on the Cape Fear as it skirted by.

The system came in just as quickly as it left. Rain began around lunchtime Monday and ended Tuesday.

Winds were not an issue, but an elevated rip current risk was in place Tuesday along with high seas.

When the rain started to taper off earlier, surfers began getting in the water. One even saying he was excited for some bigger surf.

Michael Shook, surfer, said, “Not too bad, we looked at the camera this morning and it wasn’t too windy and not too bad of a current. It’s just a tropical storm.”

“Yeah, I was pretty excited to actually have some waves out here so it was fun to have a little bit of a bump,” surfer Nolan Hanson said.

Colin was the third named tropical system of the Atlantic Hurricane season.

The next named storm will be called Danielle.
