RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Several thousand people have come to hear Donald Trump speak in North Carolina for the first time since he announced his candidacy for president and vaulted to front-runner status in the Republican field.
Trump held a rally Friday evening at Dorton Arena at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The seats were full and nearly all of the arena floor was covered with standing supporters.
The crowd cheered when they heard Trump talk about his get-tough policy on immigration and said there was no doubt the California shootings this week were a terrorist attack. At least 20 protesters in the crowd were led away when they disrupted Trump’s hour-long speech and question-and-answer session.
Trump addressed the state Republican Party convention in June, just before his official launch for president.
