Two people arrested on multiple drug charges

CLARENDON, NC (WWAY) — On Monday, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division Narcotics Unit arrested two people following an investigation into drug activity.
Deputies initiated a traffic stop involving two suspects believed to be connected to reported activity. While searching the vehicle, deputies found a gun and multiple illegal drugs.
Jatrayvis Riggins, 22, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, conspiracy to traffic in opium or heroin, 2 counts of possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver a schedule II-controlled substance, obstructing justice, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Avonta Clifton, 21, was arrested and charged with felony conspiracy to traffic in opium or heroin, maintaining a vehicle for the storage of illegal controlled substances, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana.
The sheriff’s office says investigators were conducting proactive enforcement efforts after receiving multiple allegations of drug sales in the Clarendon community.
