UNCW baseball announces 2024 schedule for defending CAA champions
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW baseball has announced their schedule for the 2024 season.
Featuring 19 games against programs that played in the 2023 regionals, UNCW Head Coach Randy Hood begins his fifth season leading the program.
The defending Coastal Athletic Association regular season and conference tournament champions have 32 home games on the schedule.
“Each year we try to put together a challenging non-conference schedule for two reasons, one to prepare us for an always tough conference slate and second to play quality teams that will allow us to hopefully have a strong RPI,” said Hood. “We want to always be in the mix to be an at-large team. We’ve had a great fall and we’re looking forward to the 2024 spring season.”
The Seahawks open the season hosting perennial Mid-America Conference power Kent State in a three-game series beginning on February 16th and Coastal Athletic Association play begins with the Seahawks hosting longtime rival Elon on March 22nd.
UNCW will play eight games against regional teams at Brooks Field in 2024 beginning with Boston College in a midweek test on March 5th. Other NCAA regional teams visiting Brooks Field include North Carolina, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, NC State and Campbell.
The first series between the Seahawks and Campbell as conference members is May 3rd through 5th.
In CAA play, the Seahawks host the College of Charleston, Towson and Hofstra in addition to Elon and Campbell.
“The CAA was the seventh-rated RPI league in the country last year. The coaches in our league have worked hard with their scheduling and believe we can continue to be a multi-bid league and stay in the top 10. All nine conference weekends are a three-day grind. We want to be the best mid-major league in the country.”
Other regional opponents include Wake Forest, who reached the College World Series, in Durham at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, at Northeastern (three games), at Charlotte (three games), at North Carolina, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina and NC State.
