UNCW Baseball headed to Athens, GA for NCAA regional
Seahawks set to square off with Georgia Tech Friday night at 7.
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – The UNCW Seahawks will be the #2 seed in Athens, Georgia when the team visits for the NCAA Regional Championship starting on Friday.
The Seahawks (39-19) join the Yellowjackets (31-23), host Georgia (39-15) and Patriot League champion Army (31-21) in the Athens Regional. Georgia is the top-seed in the regional and the seventh overall seed in the 64-team field.
For UNCW, which will be the second seed, it will be its 12th regional appearance overall and the fourth in the last six tournaments.
UNCW last played in Athens during the 2004 season and split a pair of midweek games.
UNCW and Georgia Tech have split four games but haven’t played since 1987. The Seahawks and Army have met once, coming during the 2013 Charlottesville Regional. UNCW knocked off the Black Knights, 9-5, in an elimination game.
