UNCW players voice excitement for Coach McGrath hire
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The C.B. McGrath era is officially underway at UNCW as he was debuted earlier as Seahawks head coach.
The new hire has everyone excited for the future.
Coach C.B. McGrath was welcomed by cheers from fans and current UNCW players as the school transitions from Kevin Keatts to C.B. McGrath.
“I really liked coach Keatts, he did a really great job at UNCW and I believe Carolina Coach McGrath can bring a lot to the Seahawks.” UNCW student Chase Norris said.
Part of what he can bring is a national championship pedigree.
After all, he does have three rings.
Now everyone here hopes he can raise some banners the Port City.
“I think it was a good pickup for us,” UNCW Forward Devontae Cacok said. “I think they made a good decision. Of course he has a lot of experience coming from North Carolina and winning a National Championship.”
“He’s got a great history with Roy Williams and three national championships as an assistant coach,” UNCW student Colby Norris said. “He’s got some big shoes to fill with Keatts gone but I think he’s going to be able to do it.”
In order to succeed, he’s going to need the help of his players.
Gaining their respect is key to working together.
CJ Bryce says things are already going in the right direction.
“I really like him and really respect him,” Bryce said. “He did a great job coming in today and meeting me and my teammates prior to his press conference and I have nothing but respect for him for doing that.”
While he has the support of the fans and players, time will tell if Coach C.B. McGrath can make that impact that everyone here wants him to.
