WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The University of North Carolina Wilmington will be renovating their baseball field after this season ends.

Improvements to the playing surface and the surrounding areas will be completed in time for the 2025 season.

The UNCW Board of Trustees approved the renovations in December. The renovations include replacing the entire playing surface with synthetic turf, construction of modern dugouts, and a new configuration of the outfield wall.

“I’m excited for this first phase of renovations upcoming renovations, all of which will modernize the playing surface and surrounding areas and increase the safety of our student-athletes,” said Head Coach Randy Hood, who begins his fifth season leading the program and his 23rd overall with the Seahawks.

Synthetic playing surfaces have increased in number in the Carolinas and the Coastal Athletic Association in recent years. In the CAA, only Towson, Monmouth, William & Mary, and North Carolina A&T are fully natural surface facilities. In the Carolinas, Wake Forest, Duke, Elon, Campbell, High Point, Charlotte, College of Charleston, and Appalachian State are among the facilities with synthetic surfaces.
