UNCW softball holds off ECU with walk-off

Seahawks win 5-4 over Pirates

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – Tied at 4-4 with one out and two runners on, Mary Sobataka tattooed a ball in the bottom of the 7th right back to the ECU pitcher – which for a second left UNCW fans thinking the inning would be over, with a rather easy double play opportunity with Cassidy Relay slightly off the first base bag. However, a bad throw kept her safe and advanced Taylor Vitola home, securing a 5-4 win at Boseman field.

With 12 hits, UNCW tops ECU for the Seahawks’ 24th win of the season. After scoring a run to tie the game in the 1st, the Seahawks scored two in the 4th and one more in the 5th.

This weekend’s series with Campbell will feature two of the top 3 seeds in the CAA.
