UNCW women’s hoops looks to take the next step in 2018

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–It is a new year for UNCW Women’s Basketball and it will be a much different look for the Seahawks during the 2018-2019 season. Head coach Karen Barefoot adds nine new faces to this years roster, but they haven’t had a problem coming together.

“The team is just different, it feels different, the energy is different, but it is all so positive,”said red-shirt senior Shrita Parker.

Last season was Karen Barefoot’s first season at the helm for UNCW. The Seahawks went 12-19 overall and just 4-14 in CAA play. This year UNCW will return their top scorer from a year ago, East Bladen graduate Lacey Suggs. The junior thinks this will be a special year for a team that has adopted the “teal collar mentality”.

“I think we just have to go out there and play our brand of basketball. We have a great chemistry and great bonds with each other on the court and off of it as well,”said Suggs.

UNCW will kick off their 2018 campaign on Saturday, October 27th with an exhibition game against Catawba. That game will tip-off at noon from Trask Coliseum.
