UNCW women’s tennis coach Hans Olsen resigns

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger announced Wednesday that Hans Olsen resigned as head coach of the women’s tennis program.

According to the press release, Olsen resigned to pursue personal opportunities effective January 31st.

“We are grateful to Hans for his leadership and dedication to UNCW during his time with the program,” said Oblinger. “He has been a strong advocate for our student-athletes and represented Seahawk Athletics with integrity and professionalism. We appreciate his contributions and wish him the very best moving forward.”

Olsen led the Seahawks to CAA championship appearances in 2017 and 2023.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to coach at UNCW for the last 10 years,” said Olson. “Each player that has been a part of our team has also been a part of my family. I am both sad to be leaving and excited about the next chapter in our lives. Seahawk Women’s Tennis will continue to grow and accomplish great things in the future. Go Hawks!”

Associate Head Coach John Ware will assume the interim leadership role for the women’s tennis program through the 2026 season.

UNCW will look to identify the next head coach of the UNCW women’s tennis program will begin at the conclusion of the 2026 season.
