United Way of Cape Fear hosts third Tricycle race

The Spring Trike race featured nine local banks competing against one another with the same goal of helping the community

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – At The Eagle’s Dare, the Spring Trike Race featured nine of the area’s biggest banks against each other in a mini-tricycle relay race. About 40 people peddled this spring. Attending was free.

The race raises funds for more than 40 non-profits in the Cape Fear and the winner gets a prize of $500 donated to a non-profit of their choice. A bonus of $250 was donated on behalf of the team with the best Team Spirit.

Tommy Taylor is the CEO of United Way of the Cape Fear. He says the money supports programs with a history of serving vulnerable populations.

“Here at United Way, we believe in a united community that’s safe and prosperous for everyone,” said Taylor. “This is one really fun way to get closer to that vision they’re all great supporters and they are competing for children families and neighborhoods in the Cape Fear area.”

Event organizers say they fundraised more than $8,000 for those nonprofits before the event even started. They are still tallying the total.
