USCIS welcomes 125 new U.S. Citizens during Independence Day Celebration in Southport
SOUTHPORT (WWAY) — 4th of July celebrations are already underway in Southport with more than 100 people sworn in as U.S. Citizens this afternoon.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of North Carolina held the ceremony on the Fort Johnston Garrison Lawn. They swore in 125 new citizens who originated from 43 countries. A number of state and local leaders took part in the ceremony and the administration of the Oath of Allegiance.
Amy Sing, originally from Thailand, said the U.S. has always felt like the perfect country for her to call home.
“Since I moved here, I’ve always had great experience because people are very welcoming and then, I feel like its my home already. So, it wasn’t that long of a wait.”
