Village of Bald Head Island council to discuss potential Juvenile curfew ordinance
BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Recently, there has been a spate of unruly behavior on Bald Head Island that’s why village officials and police are looking into how to address the behavior.
Bald Head Island is reviewing an ordinance on a potential Juvenile curfew and fund the installation of cameras at the main intersections on the island. The move stems from a number of incidents that happened in June and July, leading the mayor to issue a statement on July 12th. condemning quote “totally unacceptable behavior against staff of the Bald Head Island Conservancy and others.”
BHI Public Safety Director Joshua Gibson spoke on one of the calls he’s received on some of the recent behavior at a village council meeting.
“That call was about Juveniles destroying the golf green by hitting the balls from the fairway, from the greens, on the fairway.”
The item will be further discussed at the village council’s meeting on Monday. In the meantime, Chief Gibson wants residents who see potential criminal activity to call 911 and be prepared to give an accurate description of the individuals involved. Gibson also wants people to record the behavior on video.
To provide Brunswick County 911 personnel some familiarity with the island, Chief Gibson has arranged for communications center staff to visit over the next several weeks.
