WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A temporary overnight cold-weather shelter in Wilmington will reopen Saturday, Feb. 7, to provide warmth and safety for people experiencing homelessness during some of the area’s coldest nights.

Organizers said Warming Shelter ILM will operate through Monday morning, Feb. 9, with space for up to 125 guests.

The shelter is supported entirely through community donations and volunteers. Those interested in helping can register to volunteer online, and donations can be made through the shelter’s website.

Organizers are also asking the community to help provide food for a Super Bowl party for guests this Sunday. They said they need appetizers and snacks to serve up to 125 people, encouraging residents to contribute items to create a variety of options.

Donations for the Super Bowl gathering can be dropped off at Grace United Methodist Church, 401 Grace St.

The Warming Shelter is a ministry sponsored by Hope Recovery UMC and operates in partnership with Grace United Methodist Church, along with support from other churches, businesses, nonprofits, local government and community members.
