Wells Fargo Championship Round 2 news and notes

Play was suspended due to darkness at 7:55 p.m. with 68 players yet to complete the second round. The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Second-Round Leaderboard Billy Hurley III 70-69 (-5) Seamus Power 68-71 (-5) Francesco Molinari -5 through 11 holes John Peterson -5 through 12 holes Billy Hurley III, winner of the 2016 Quicken Loans National, held a share of the clubhouse lead at 5-under. Hurley is making his 15th start of the 2016-17 PGA TOUR Season where he has three top-25s in nine made cuts.

PGA TOUR rookie Seamus Power, who is from Ireland but resides in Charlotte, N.C., followed a first-round 68 with a 1-under 71 on Friday to share the clubhouse lead with Billy Hurley III. Power, who grew up playing junior golf with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, represented Ireland when golf returned to the Olympics for the first time since 1904 in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He Finished T15 in the 60-player field. Making his fourth start in the Wells Fargo Championship, John Peterson was three-under-par on the day through 12 holes when play was suspended for the day. He will return Saturday morning tied for the lead at 5- under-par.

Jon Rahm, who has five top-10s in his last seven PGA TOUR starts, including his first career victory at the Farmers Insurance Open, has rounds of 69-71 in his Wells Fargo Championship debut. The 22-year-old will make his first start in THE PLAYERS Championship next week. With an even-par 72 in the second round, Phil Mickelson has played 42 of 54 competitive rounds at the Wells Fargo Championship at par or better. On his last hole of the round, No. 9, 2014 Wells Fargo Championship winner J.B. Holmes chipped in for birdie- 3 from 88’8” in the primary rough.

Defending champion James Hahn followed an opening even-par 72 with a 1-under 71 and is 1-under for the tournament. The projected cut is currently 1-over par.

Francesco Molinari, who held a one-stroke lead after 18 holes at 6-under 66, was +1 for the day through 11 holes when play was called for the day and -5 overall.

FedExCup leader and World No. 1 Dustin Johnson was +2 through 13 holes and even par overall when play was called for the day.

Rory Sabbatini (elbow) and Alex Cejka (back) withdrew after the second round.

Second-round lead notes The only second-round leader/co-leader of the Wells Fargo Championship to convert for the win was Tiger Woods in 2007. Thirteen of the 24 second-round leaders/co-leaders on the PGA TOUR this season have been able to convert for the win in stroke-play events, most recently Sergio Garcia at the Masters Tournament.
