WHAT’S HAPPENING: October 4th and 5th
CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — The first weekend of October brings a full slate of festivals, contests and community events to the Cape Fear region.
In Belville, the Riverwalk Fall Festival takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverwalk Park. The free family event includes live music, games, face painting, a balloon artist, a pumpkin patch and a pumpkin pie eating contest. Details here.
At Wrightsville Beach Park, dogs and their owners can join Bark in the Park, a free event beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. Activities include a dog disc competition and contests for best dressed dog, best dressed team and a dog personality showcase. Register your dog here.
Downtown Wilmington hosts the annual Riverfest on both Saturday and Sunday, featuring a street fair, live music, car display, BMX bike show and more. A drone show is scheduled along the Riverwalk at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Details here.
Later that night, Satellite Bar and Lounge will host a Taylor Swift takeover dance party starting at 9 p.m., led by the Beehive Blondes. The event coincides with the release of Swift’s new album The Life of a Showgirl but will include music from across her catalog. Admission is free. Find out more here.
On Sunday, Freya’s Haus at 55 Scotts Hill Loop Road in New Hanover County will hold a Pumpkin Festival from noon to 5 p.m., featuring local vendors, seasonal food and fall activities. Details here.
Honorable mention: The Children’s Museum of Wilmington will be hosting its bi-monthly Sensory Sunday event this weekend, through a partnership with AFL Autism Services. It’s happening from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is free to attend. Details here.
