WHAT’S HAPPENING: Valentine’s Day Weekend
CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — Residents across the Cape Fear region have several options to fill their weekend plans, with events ranging from Valentine’s shopping to pet-friendly fun and an opportunity to give back to the environment.
Those still searching for Valentine’s Day gifts can stop by the Sweetheart Shop Valentine’s Pop-Up Market at Belville Riverwalk Park. Vendors will offer items such as fresh flowers, stuffed animals and greeting cards. The market is open Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pet lovers can celebrate Valentine’s Day with a dog-friendly event Friday evening in downtown Wilmington. Hi-Wire Brewing in the Soda Pop District is hosting a doggie kissing booth beginning at 5 p.m. Attendees can take photos with a professional “smooching pooch” or bring their own dog for a picture. Photo sessions cost 35 dollars, and the event runs until 9 p.m.
For those looking to give back, Cape Fear River Watch is hosting its monthly litter cleanup Saturday morning. Volunteers will meet on Lake Branch Drive from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to clean up the Greenfield Lake watershed. Supplies including pickers, bags, safety vests and gloves will be provided. Participants with kayaks are encouraged to bring them, though some additional boats will be available. Registration is open online.
With shopping, community events and volunteer opportunities, organizers say there is no shortage of ways to spend the weekend around the Cape Fear.
