Wilmington City Councilman David Joyner attends Democratic National Convention

CHICAGO, IL (WWAY) — A Wilmington City Councilman in Chicago this week attending the Democratic National Convention.

Councilman David Joyner has been at the convention all week and will watch Vice President Kamala Harris accept the Democratic nomination for president. A variety of issues have already been discussed this week, but Councilman Joyner is looking forward to the potential of what Harris’ Vice Presidential nominee, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, could bring to the ticket on an issue that has affected so many people back in the Cape Fear.

“We know that in Wilmington pollution from PFAS in the Cape Fear River is at the top of everybody’s mind. He has done important work in his home state to make sure PFAS regulation is on the book there and he’s been a champion for environmental, and water regulations that have helped people in his home state. I’m excited to see him bring that to the federal level because we know about the importance of it in Wilmington,” Joyner said.

Walz will headline tonight, a night that will also feature former President Bill Clinton and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Governor Roy Cooper will speak tomorrow night before Harris accepts the Presidential Nomination.
