WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department and New Hanover County Fire Rescue are teaming up once again for their annual FIRES event.

FIRES, which stands for Fire Igniting Readiness, Emergency Preparedness, and Safety, is a free event designed to educate children and summer camp groups about safety through hands-on activities and demonstrations.

The event will take place Thursday, June 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Maides Park, located at 1101 Manly Ave. in Wilmington.

Organizers say participants can expect interactive learning stations, fire and law enforcement vehicle displays, a fire safety inflatable house, hands-only CPR training, and other emergency preparedness activities.

A special fashion show featuring first responders in their gear will take place at 12 p.m. and again at 2 p.m.

In addition to fire and rescue crews, several local organizations will be on hand, including the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the American Red Cross, the North Carolina Forestry Service, Safe Kids Cape Fear, and more.
