‘Wilmington Idiot Spotter’ creator speaks out

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Last week we told you about a new Facebook page that is calling people out on their less than perfect driving right here in the Port City. Now the creator of the ‘Wilmington Idiot Spotter’ Facebook page is speaking out.

James Hoffman is the man behind the rapidly growing Facebook page, where folks can vent their frustrations about so-called “idiots” in Wilmington.

“There’s an idiot. Shame them. And go about your business,” said Hoffman about the philosophy behind the page.

“I want clean fun basically. I don’t want people to come on there and talk a bunch of junk, call people out and try to get in fights…” said Hoffman.

It’s just a fun place online to let out some of those frustrations over dreadful drivers and poor parkers in the area. Hoffman insists the page is all in good fun, and nothing on it is meant to be mean or malicious in any way.

“There’s a lot worse things people can be called than an idiot. And if you’re doing something that would cause you to be called out and labeled as such, well then maybe you should review why you’re being cast in that light in the first place,” said Hoffman.

To those who think the page is mean spirited, Hoffman offers this.

“Honestly, some people just need to get a little bit thicker skin, I believe,” said Hoffman.

Hoffman said he is just glad people are having fun taking out their frustrations on social media rather than out on the roads.
