Wilmington luncheon honors WWII veterans

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A special luncheon was held in downtown Wilmington on Monday to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and honor those in the area who served.

Liberty Senior Living recognized 8 veterans from Bradley Creek at Carolina Bay and The Commons at Brightmore with 4 World War II veterans in attendance at the Pilot House.

Each veteran received two challenge coins, one from the World War II Museum and one from Liberty Senior Living.

Bob Goyette is the chief operations officer for Liberty Senior Living.

Goyette is a veteran himself, and he wanted to give back to World War II vets like William Eggers who served in the Air Force.

“Fantastic, it’s fantastic,” Eggers said.

“These are the folks that secured our freedoms so it’s only befitting of our company to just show how much we really respect and admire their service and their sacrifice,” Goyette shared.
