Wilmington man facing gun charges following traffic stop on bike

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An 18-year-old Wilmington man faces charges after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a stolen handgun.

Just before 11:30 pm on Thursday, Wilmington Police stopped Jewelyus McCall in the 300 block of South Turners Run for riding a bike without a working bicycle light. Police say McCall ran off but was caught shortly thereafter.

Following the arrest, officers located a handgun and magazine nearby. The gun had been reported stolen and was equipped with a switch, categorizing it as a weapon of mass destruction.

McCall is now facing multiple charges, including possessing a stolen firearm, possessing a weapon of mass destruction, resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer, and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.

He is currently held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center under a $150,000 bond.
