Wilmington native dog competes in Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and wins

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show took place over the weekend in New York and a dog with a Cape Fear connection is returning as a winner.

Eastwoods Georgia On My Mind won best Cocker Spaniel Parti-Color in the show and she calls Wilmington her home.

Tonya Jonkheer is the owner of Eastwood Grooming in Wilmington and the owner of the award-winning dog. Jonkheer said it is an honor to even attend the well-known dog show and said she experienced a proud dog mom moment when Georgia won.

Jonkheer shared what’s next for her champion.

“Going to Westminster was cool, winning at Westminster was out of this world. We’re going to the nationals in Colorado in July and hopefully we’ll do well there. So, that’s her next step,” Jonkheer said.

Jonkheer said Georgia gets groomed about every four days to maintain her prize-winning appearance. She’s already began working with Georgia to win her next title.
