Wilmington on track for driest month ever recorded

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s been a very dry month of October across the Cape Fear.
Wilmington is just over a week away from making the record books as the driest month in its history.
The Port City has only picked up 0.01″ of rainfall so far this October, coming on the 16th.
Our dry stretch goes back to September 28, nearly a month with just 0.01″ of combined rain. The record for that category is 46 straight days, set in 1884.
If the forecast for no rain through the end of the month plays out as expected, this October would join October of 1943 and 1933, along with November of 1919, as the only months seeing less than 0.10″ of combined rain.
The newest drought monitor comes out Thursday. There’s a chance abnormally dry conditions begin to creep back into the area.
Wilmington typically sees 4.66″ of rain during the month of October.
