Wilmington parks bond passes
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– With all precincts reporting, city voters have approved over $30-million in bonds for more park projects.
A decade ago voters in Wilmington and New Hanover County approved $35-million in bonds for parks and green space. This year the city of Wilmington asked its voters to approve more than $30-million in bonds for more park projects.
According to the city of Wilmington, parks are a high priority for Wilmington residents. In both the most recent citizen survey and the recently completed comprehensive plan, citizens indicated that they want more parks and recreation opportunities.
“The Parks Bond would improve the quality of life for all area residents and spur new economic activity,” said Ed Wolverton, Wilmington Downtown Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer. “This is the first time since 2006 that City voters are considering bonds to expand, improve and add new park and recreational facilities and WDI encourages residents to support the proposal,” he said.
