Wilmington Police horse officially retires

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An officer with the Wilmington Police mounted unit has officially retired.

WPD says officer Elton had been with the department for more than 15 years and had served the community well during that time as he worked to keep the downtown Wilmington district safe.

Elton was recognized at a recent city council meeting.

Elton was struck by an alleged drunk driver in 2022 but has since recovered.

A police spokesperson says the incident was not a factor in his retirement.

Elton is now living at a farm in the Fayetteville Area.
