Wilmington teen facing attempted murder charges set for trial

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)–  A Wilmington teen facing attempted murder charges is scheduled to go to trial.

Wilmington police arrested 19-year-old Michael John Hutton last May after he allegedly beat his girlfriend Hannah Connoway so hard she had to have brain surgery.

A judge set a trial date for October 26, but two motions are still pending.

The defense is looking into having their own medical expert examine Connoway. The defense says that decision should be made by the end of the week after they have a chance to look at more than 2,000 pages of medical records from the hospital.

The state is also pursuing a motion to use pictures on Hutton’s phone of Connoway as evidence in trial.
