Winter weather does not mean snow day for all
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — As wintry weather impacted the region this morning, many businesses and schools were forced to closed, but some people still had to drive in the conditions in Brunswick County as they headed into Wilmington for work.
Icy spots on roadways and bridges coming into New Hanover County from Brunswick County caused several of traffic and crashes.
NCDOT spokesman Brian Rick says the agency’s big concern is black ice. Roads are being treated as needed, but with temperatures around freezing all day, that sets up a tricky situation for everyone; too tricky for school buses. Cailah Cull is one of the many kids who were out of school today, but she says she doesn’t want to be outside.
“Don’t want to get out and get sick,” she said
But she was excited to see snow
“Impressed that it can get that cold down here,” Cull said.
From snow to sleet to freezing rain to rain, we’ve pretty much have seen it all across southeastern North Carolina today. Once this storm is out of the way, the focus turns to later this week when there’s another chance to see wintry mix.
