With Christmas coming soon, be ready to see some heavy traffic

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– There are almost no parking spaces, and long lines at TSA; the days before Christmas are some of the busiest days to travel by air. At Wilmington International Airport, it is no exception, with people coming in to either head home for the holidays, or to take a vacation.

Erin McNally, Public Relations Manager at ILM, tells travelers what they should do to get ahead of the game.

“We certainly recommend allowing a little extra time, so that you can get extra time to get into the airport. Find parking, check in, and then once you get through security, you can generally enjoy knowing you are already here”, said McNally.

With people crowding the airlines, and with a few flights already delayed, Mitch Ursick, won’t let a delay ruin his mood.

“There is nothing I can do about it, I can’t fly, I’m just here to enjoy my time”, said Ursick.

While ILMt is getting busy, so are the roads. 3.3 million North Carolinian travelers are expected to travel by road for the holidays.

American Automobile Association spokesperson, Tiffany Wright, says be ready to spend some time in the car.

“Our interstate and highways are going to be busy. Let’s just face it, a lot of people like to say, is there another route I can find? Everybody is trying to find the quicker route, and everyone is trying to save time and limit their travel”, said Wright.

While on the road, Wright also says to be mindful of others.

“Get behind the wheel in a good state of mind. Be tolerant of other drivers. Don’t take things too personally. We are all trying to get our friends, families, and loved ones. Be tolerant of others. We are seeing too many incidents of road rage, and it could have some pretty devastating consequences”, said Wright.
