Woman arrested in Massachusetts after fraud investigation in Ocean Isle Beach

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A lady was arrested in Massachusetts following an extensive investigation into financial fraud in Ocean Isle Beach.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says a resident of Ocean Isle Beach was contacted by individuals falsely claiming to represent Publisher’s Clearing House and was told he had won $4 million and a Mercedes-Benz in early 2025. The victim was then instructed to pay alleged IRS and FDIC fees resulting in the liquidation of retirement and investment assets and the loss of approximately $500,000 by mailing checks and providing gift cards to out-of-state entities, including BTW Enterprises LLC.
After investigating, it was revealed that the victim paid $214,800 to BTW Enterprises LLC. The sheriff’s office also found that the company was involved in significant suspicious financial activity and ties to previously investigated fraud cases.
At least one additional victim outside North Carolina has been identified.
On December 22, 2025, an arrest warrant was issued for Sabrina Johnson. Johnson was taken into custody on December 31st, 2025, in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and is currently awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone who believes they were victim of a similar scam are asked to call the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
