Woman shot while holding baby in Wake County

WENDELL, NC (AP) — Authorities say a woman holding a 3-month-old baby has been shot at a Wake County home.

Deputies told media outlets that 21-year-old Destiny Davis was taken to the hospital, while the baby boy she was holding was not hurt in the shooting around 6 p.m. Friday outside a Wendell home.

Investigators say 36-year-old Kevin Watkins was arrested at his home in Knightdale a short time later. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Deputies say they don’t know why Watkins shot at the home or if Davis was the intended target.

It wasn’t known if Watkins had a lawyer.
