Wrightsville Beach witnesses a bloom decades in the making

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It’s not every day that you come across a century plant ready to bloom but if you are in Wrightsville Beach, you may have the opportunity to see one.
The life cycle of the plant, also known as the Agave Americana, is not exactly a century. It is usually anywhere from 10 to 30 years then it blooms and dies.
However, it does leave behind ‘pups’ or seeds which fall and grow, guaranteeing the continuous growth of the species.
The unique plant, which looks more like a tall tree, can be found on Jack Parker Boulevard and it is at least 15 feet high.
It’s not the first time one has been spotted in Wrightsville Beach.
