WWAY NEWS named Best Evening Newscast in NC

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — WWAY NEWS has been honored as Best Evening Newscast in North Carolina by The Associated Press.

WWAY received the award during the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC) & AP Convention and Awards Luncheon at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord today. WWAY last won Best Newscast from the AP in 2015.

WWAY NEWS also won the RTDNAC Award for Best Special Report in the Carolinas for the station’s commercial-free Election Night coverage of the 2016 election.

“It’s always nice to be recognized by your peers, but when it’s a team award like these, it means so much more,” WWAY News Director Kevin Wuzzardo said. “It shows that the hard work of the entire news and production team has paid off, and it’s validation that we are giving our viewers high-quality coverage of the big events and news that impacts their lives, and really that’s what is most important to us.”

WWAY’s awards come in each organization’s Division II, which includes small market stations in North Carolina, including Wilmington and Greenville-New Bern, and in South Carolina, including Charleston and Myrtle Beach.
